The second plenary session “The New Era of Globalization: Hybridity of cultures in a changing world” has been held in Baku as part of the 2nd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue. The session discussed mutual synthesis and influence of cultures and prevention of ethnic conflicts.
Moderator of the session, Senior Vice President and the Chief Program Officer of the Salzburg Global Seminar Edward Mortimer underlined the importance of mutual influence of civilizations.
Director General of the World Dialogue Council Alistair Macdonald-Radcliff noted that although some people consider the globalization as the threat, this helps cultures to understand each other and keep their identity together.
Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Mikhail Shvidkoy said all issues of the society are handled by ordinary people and the future of the socium hinges on them. He noted that any action spreads around the world in a moment in the era of communication.
Director of the Azerbaijan`s Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law Ilham Mammadzadeh noted that the culture taken as the norm does not allow to understand the multiculturalism.
Also speaking at the session were Professor of the University of Sussex Shamit Saggar, former Italian Premier Lamberto Dini, Professor of Turkey`s Bogazici University Yilmaz Hakan, Professor of Aarhus University Frederik Stjernfelt.
